Investment Banking Industrials Associate – London

Lazard is seeking to recruit an Associate to join the Industrials Team in London. The Industrials Team serves a broad range of companies across Europe, advising on a full range of transactions, involving, amongst others, public takeover & defence, cross-border, financial sponsors and corporate carve-outs. The Associate will play a central role on transactions and client interactions, as well as contribute to the team’s collegiate culture, with a focus on talent development and collaboration.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Demonstrate strong technical and analytical skills with an ability to build financial models with ease; 
  • Research, analyse, sensitise and adapt both internal and client-facing financial and statistical analysis/ models; 
  • Efficiently evaluate qualitative and quantitative data; 
  • Be responsible for the accuracy of numerical work produced by junior bankers before delivering the final product to senior bankers; 
  • Be responsible for assisting in the preparation and production of presentations and marketing materials for clients and prospective clients, in consultation with other team members; 
  • Effectively manage their own work and that of juniors, taking responsibility for accuracy and quality-checking finished products with regards to content, consistency and language 
  • Assist MDs and senior bankers on an ad hoc basis as needed with various reports and analyses; 
  • Handle execution and process matters flawlessly, assisting in due diligence efforts as appropriate; 
  • Understand client objectives and recommend potential solutions; 
  • Show an ability to identify ideas for the creation of new business; 
  • Use your own knowledge and judgement to add information to presentations where appropriate;  
  • Identify issues arising and offer potential solutions. Create productive relationships with clients and advisors; 
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately; 
  • Turn ideas into concise and comprehensive presentations; 
  • Be a proactive team participant with a natural ability to develop their profile across Lazard groups and regions; 
  • Anticipate needs and be proactive in making value-added contributions; 
  • Independently develop sound and logical views whilst understanding both the big picture and the minutiae; 
  • Show confidence, professionalism, and accountability at all times; 
  • Contribute to firm-wide initiatives including recruiting, training, and professional development. 

You’ll need to have:

  • Significant M&A experience within an investment banking environment. Previous Industrials M&A transaction experience would be helpful but is not essential; 
  • Robust understanding of the accounting principles that underlie typical financial analyses used in advisory (particularly valuation); 
  • Outstanding financial understanding that can be readily translated into modelling that is used for both marketing and execution purposes; 
  • The ability to manage conflicting priorities and requests in a high pressure environment; 
  • The ability to take initiative and function independently, balanced with strong team skills; 
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to maintain relationships with colleagues and clients at all levels;  
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; 
  • The ability to deliver requested materials to senior bankers in a timely manner; 
  • Strong awareness of the regulatory environment; 
  • Experience to maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct, adhere to legal and regulatory requirements of the banking environment and follow Lazard policies and procedures; 
  • Minimum 2.1 university degree classification (or equivalent if studied outside the UK);
