Venture & Growth Banking team is one of the newest teams to be formed at Lazard and has grown from 8 to 25 FTEs in just over 2.5 years. The team focuses on raising capital for some of the most exciting companies across Europe and the United States at the forefront of technological innovation in their respective industries. The team has raised over $3bn in primary proceeds for our clients since arriving at Lazard across a multitude of stages and sectors.

Lazard is seeking to recruit an Analyst to join the Venture & Growth Banking Teams in Austin, Texas or Los Angeles, California with a tentative start date of June, 2023. The Analyst will be part of the founding teams in the Austin and Los Angeles offices and will report into senior bankers on each transaction.

Role and Responsibilities:

Responsible for supporting Associates and Senior bankers on the day-to-day support of transaction and marketing efforts and conducting broader administrative tasks required to facilitate the efficient running of the team;

  • Demonstrates good technical and analytical skills; some experience building financial models;
  • Research, analyse, sensitise, and adapt both internal and client-prepared financial and statistical analysis/ models. Evaluate qualitative and quantitative data;
  • Responsible for assisting in the preparation and producing of presentations and marketing materials for VGB clients and prospective clients in consultation with team members;
  • Support the team’s Managing Directors in their own coverage of the North American venture and growth investor landscape by analysing the market, producing marketing materials, and providing clients with insights on the market;
  • Effectively manages own work; takes responsibility for checking accuracy of work (i.e. ticking & tying numbers, grammar, etc) prior to sharing with more senior team members; responsible for generating numerical work under the guidance of Associates;
  • Builds relationships with other sector teams across the Lazard network to ensure close engagement between VGB and the wider bank;
  • Assist MD’s and senior bankers on an ad hoc basis as needed with various reports and analyses;
  • Lead on facilitating the team’s broader responsibilities of refreshing & reviewing fundraising data, updating pipelines, and assisting senior bankers on identifying new companies & investors that could be origination/distribution targets;
  • Expected to assist on driving forward the day-to-day execution of a process flawlessly under the guidance of Associate and Senior Bankers;
  • Use own knowledge and judgement to add information to presentations where appropriate. Assist in due diligence efforts;
  • Competent at using various technology platforms including the Microsoft Office Suite, Slack, with familiarity with proficient at using Google Suite & Deal Cloud also being preferable;
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately; turns ideas into concise and comprehensive presentations;
  • Proactive team participant; shares information; broadens profile across Lazard groups and regions;
  • Anticipates needs; is proactive in making value-added contributions;
  • Independently develops sound and logical views; understands both big picture and minutiae;
  • Shows confidence, professionalism and accountability;
  • Contributes to firm-wide initiatives including recruiting, training, professional development and other activities.

Requirements:

  • The successful candidate may have gained some transaction experience within an investment banking environment;
  • Good underlying knowledge of financial modelling and accountancy – e.g. 3 statement models, valuation methodologies, etc
  • Passion for technology and high growth start-ups with a strong work ethic;
  • Entrepreneurial mindset to solving problems and how we can continue to improve our service to clients and improve our internal processes;
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and requests;
  • Ability to take initiative and function independently, balanced with strong team skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to maintain relationships with colleagues and clients at all levels. Strong written skills;
  • Ability to deliver requested materials to senior bankers in a timely manner;
  • Must maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct, adhere to legal and regulatory requirements of the banking environment, and follow Lazard policies and procedures.
